I had a dream last night,
It was Christmas time,
At your parent’s house,
They were doing fine,
I waited in the kitchen,
With your mom and your dad,
They said you were sleeping,
From the night you had.
So we sat together,
With the wreaths and the lights,
Talking and smiling,
As the day turned to night,
They assured me we’d hear,
The sound of the steps,
After you’d woken,
After your rest.
I began to grow anxious,
As the night wore on,
The laughter had stopped,
The smiles were gone,
In the haze that exists,
Between dreams and life,
I remembered the truth,
I remembered you’d died.
I awoke in that moment,
My thoughts swirling round,
And I knew in an instant,
You weren't coming down,
Then I thought to myself,
With my eyes still shut,
If I wanted to see you,
I’d need to come up.
